Superyacht Society Cancels Its Awards Gala

Superyacht Society Announced The Cancellation of Its Annual Awards Gala Event Which Takes Place During Ft Lauderdale Boat Show

YV&C News Desk obtained the following announcement today from the Superyacht Society.

"This morning, the ISS (International Superyacht Society) learned that the Fort Lauderdale Marriott Harbor Beach Resort is closed. Therefore, the Awards Gala will not be held at this time. Further, in consideration of our industry and due to the reports by both news media and individual ISS members local to Fort Lauderdale regarding the impact of Hurricane Wilma, the ISS has decided to cancel its other events scheduled for this week's Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. Planning is already underway to reschedule many of the events; news of these plans will be forthcoming in the next several days and weeks."

The Superyacht Society is the sole organization serving and representing the large yacht industry worldwide. Society members are individuals and companies who have been recognized for their leadership and dedication to raising the standards of design construction, maintenance, repair and operation of large yachts.

Founded in 1989, the Society is a not-for-profit organization and relies wholly on membership dues, the support of corporate sponsors, revenues from special events, and other donations. An elected Board of Directors guides the Society’s activities, which include the International Superyacht Design Awards program, The Superyacht Society Leadership Awards, the publication of a newsletter to serve as a vehicle for voicing industry issues and individual opinions, and educational programs.

Education Programs are currently conducted at four venues on two continents and include open forums such as symposia, informal gatherings and round-tables. It is a Society priority to foster dialogue among Society members and others in the large yacht segment of the marine industry, leading to the strengthening and growth of the business interests of Society members and the industry as a whole. Society materials will be published and available on line. Other databases under development include a compendium of industry resources and updates on regulatory and other issues.

International Yacht Vacations & Charters Magazine is a member of the International Superyacht Society.
