Kaohsiung Attractions in New York With Promotion of Mayor Chen Chu and Mayday

KAOHSIUNG, TAIWAN -- (Marketwired) -- 04/10/14 -- Scenic attractions of Kaohsiung and the tasty cuisines the city offers are shuttling on New York subways and buses in the latest wave of tourism promotions for the metropolitan city in southern Taiwan.

In the promotional campaigns, Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chu and the city's Global Ambassadors -- members of Taiwan's top music group Mayday, present the city's natural beauty and cultural heritage to people in the Big Apple.

This follows the commercial "The Incredible Kaohsiung" launched at New York's Time Square last month, which introduced the city known for its hospitality, dynamic lifestyle, and the splendor of art and culture.

In the series of campaigns, Mayor Chen and Mayday are inviting foreign friends to visit Kaohsiung, which has been transformed from a shipping hub to a world-class metropolis of charm and grandeur.

Mayday, dubbed Taiwan's Beatles by the Washington Post and the BBC, has been a sensation in Chinese communities worldwide. Its members each represents one of the five key tourism development highlights offered by Kaohsiung.

Mayday's concert, staged in New York this month, also greatly helped promote Kaohsiung, as did the Time Square commercial, according to Kaohsiung City Government.

Scenic attractions featured in the promotions on subways and buses include Kaohsiung harbor -- the biggest international port in Taiwan, the Tower of Dragon and Tiger, the sunset over the old iron bridge in Dashu, and the unique design of the Formosa Station of Kaohsiung MRT system. Tasty tropical fruits, such as bananas grown in Qishan and guava harvested from Yanzhao, are also introduced.

Kaohsiung has also become a favorite venue for the emerging MICE industry (meetings - incentives - conventions & exhibitions) in recent years. For example, in May this year, the first "Taiwan International Boat Show" will be held at the newly inaugurated Kaohsiung Exhibition Center. According to Show Boats International's 2014 Global Order Book, Taiwan ranks the 6th largest yacht manufacturing country in the world of yachts 80-foot or above, with 5,656 feet in total. As the capital of Taiwan's yacht industry, Kaohsiung was the best choice to host the international event.
